Use Social Media To Get Hired, For Hiring

When you are a sales management employee, or are in a similar executive role, finding a new job can sometimes be difficult. However, if you take the necessary steps and prepare yourself, opportunities may begin to present themselves in terms of potential sales hiring.

There are several technical ways involving keywords and specific phrases that may catch the eye of a recruiter on sites like LinkedIn, but this is something that is based on metrics and should be researched based on the specific position.

In general it is good to keep your LinkedIn page updated on a frequent basis. This can allow a maximum number of people to see your page when it is polished and prepared for any role that opens up.

It is important to get connected with everyone that you possibly can, and stay in touch with them. Networking is the key to creating opportunities in the modern marketplace.

If you are a senior level guy, the number one way you are going to get a job is by knowing someone. Every vendor that sells to you, every customer that you sell to, every peer in the business, you want to stay connected with all these people over the course of your career.

Consistent management of your network throughout your career can help to minimize the time that is spent between jobs and can help to open up opportunities. Saving everything until you need work and trying to revive an old connection is not going to be an effective approach.

The other side

A VP of sales or senior HR workers also need to use social media in order to find the best possible candidates for any positions that open up at their company.

You can find a lot about someone on Facebook and similar social media sites. Many people neglect to think about the consequences of putting personal information up on these sites, so it can sometimes be easy to find out about a candidate by simply checking their page.

You can look up anything that happened to an individual that is put on their page, and though that person may not think twice about posting it, that informaiton is available to employers and can affect their status as a potential hire.

I can't help but to think about Michael Phelps getting caught smoking marijuana following his Olympic triumph. In this age there are cell phone cameras with incredible capabilities and each individual has to monitor their actions in order to prevent something of that magnitude from becoming public information.

Typically, college students will reach the height of their intellectual pursuits and the height of their stupid behavior at the same time. Though this was less of a problem prior to social media, because of this technology it is now imperative for candidates to monitor these sites in order to prevent something negative from being exposed.

The employer can use this type of information to narrow their search, as some individuals may allow access to too much of their personal information.

For HR professionals, this becomes a big thing. The onus is on you to discredit bad candidates and you have to use social media tools and social networking to distinguish between the potential hires.

They have to keep their networks open in order to have the best possible connections for when they need to hire people. If they are in contact with a large group of people then finding an appropriate candidate may be easier.
